I realise I shouldn’t be, but I’m genuinely surprised there are still people who think like Tracie. Doesn’t anybody read anymore? Or are they all reading “Bigots Daily” or “The Propaganda Herald”

The burqa. I wish I’d known that word in primary school, when the teacher said the letter “u” always follows “q” and I was sure there were exceptions.
But to get back to being serious… I find the issue of the burqa a very difficult one.
On one hand I think people should be able to wear style of clothing they want.
On the other hand I feel that the burqa represents gender inequality that stems from Islam and Middle Eastern countries.
The problem is that I’m not a woman so I find it really hard to understand the issues at play. So I try to listen to women talking about the issue. There are women arguing both sides so I remain conflicted. I am still trying to figure it out.
My point is this. Many people oppose the burqa because they are intolerant. They can piss right off. But some people oppose it because they associate it with gender inequality. The latter group may very well be wrong but their motives are at least good.
