The Controversy that has surrounded the reality show All American Muslim is something that angers me. I’m not Muslim and have only watched a few clips of the show, but to try and coerce companies to pull their advertisement during the show’s time slot based on stereo typical beliefs is beyond ignorance at its finest.

Digi-jo’s post got me thinking.
Boycotts are a double-edged sword. They can be put to good, such as when used to silence Glen Beck, or they can be put to evil, as shown in the image above. (If you don’t know about this All-American Muslim thing, look here.)
Capitalism is blind to our human bigotries. The most profitable stance is tolerance — welcoming all consumers! Glen Beck’s advertisers left him not for noble moral reasons, but because it was a PR risk being anywhere near the man. What about the Lowes decision, was it commercially savvy? I guess it would depend on how much of its customer base is the intolerant fundie Christian kind.
All I know for sure is that I would love Gruen Planet to talk about this topic.
