I saw the above advert on Gruen Sweat and it made me feel good.
Compare and contrast to what I’ve seen on television:
Competing messages — “challenge yourself” versus “winning is everything”. What bothers me is that the latter sentiment is popular enough for an ad to be made around it. Even if one puts aside the selfish attitude, how meatheaded must viewers be to not see one of the obvious implications: that they suck for not being gold medalists themselves?
Interestingly enough, back in the 1996 Atlanta games, Nike was a sponsor and copped a lot of heat for its slogan “You Don’t Win Silver — You Lose Gold.” Attitudes change, eh?
