Lately, in Vox Venio development, I’ve been working on the rover upgrade system.
Basically: some levels will have an upgrade station where the rover can be enhanced with new abilities. Sort-of like the items in certain Castlevania games, except you’re not getting more powerful — the rover is. Naturally, the levels will get more fiendishly difficult to match.
It’s not finished yet so I can’t show it.
But I did have a related idea. I wondered how the player might be made aware of new upgrades. Sure, I could pop up information at the time. But by the end of the game you might’ve forgotten all the stuff the rover’s got.
So… now the rover responds to “HELP” voice command as per the picture. That picture is only semi-genuine… it does come up when you say “HELP” but at the moment it is not dynamically determining what commands it knows. For now, it’s just placeholder text.
